An insurance salesman in Monterey, California, lost his only daughter to disability and disease, and is now the head instructor of a program that gives hope to children like her.
REVIEW
This documentary short begins with a group of several patient, gentle riding instructors assisting a young child with special needs as she mounts a horse, setting the tone for the touching subject of "Star Riders." This simple, no-frills film features interviews with the founder of the program, an affable man whose epileptic daughter's love of horses inspired him to create this program so that other disabled children might also discover the joy of horseback riding. The camera never strays from the fenced-in ring where the children get to ride. Interviews with some of the young participants in the program are heartfelt and touching, and shed a lot of light on the good that a simple pleasure like riding can do for a child with special needs.
